This Art Blog and these images: what are they about?

We all have, I think, art we return to. Mine is 'An Autumn Landscape with a View of Het Steen in the Early Morning' by Rubens. I spend hours in front of it, also recording the behaviour of other visitors; responding to pictorial space is the ultimate point of this writing.

What are we doing now in front of these flat, decorations?

IMAGES

The images are about direct encounters, usually with land although there is a close relationship to art I have seen. In essence these images are about: what is it like to sit in this place and make art about what it is like to sit in this place?

New Light

My paintings have always begun with long cold hours and a sketchbook. But, working as a volunteer in East Africa from 2013-15, I made many drawings three degrees north of the Equator. Strong direct, overhead light and warmth re-defined how I think about representing space. Now returned to the South West UK, I have seen a noticeable difference between work made before and after that time.
